No Expiration Date

February 15, 2012 1 comment

18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (1 Peter 1:18-19 NKJV)

I throw milk away, sometimes bread and unfortunately many other food stuffs. Why? Because I have taken too long to eat them. They have reached their expiration date. Perishable foods all have a expiration date posted upon them. When you look at bread, milk, meat, etc., you always check the expiration date and attempt to purchase the one with the expiration date that is latest. When it comes to fruit I am even worse, since fruit will only last so long before rotting.

February 18th (this coming Saturday) will mark my 21st Spiritual BDay since repenting of my sins and backslidden state. I grew up in an Apostolic Church and received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost and was Baptized in Jesus Name at an early age. Unfortunately I chose to leave God and His perfect way and go my own way in my early teens. One of the reasons I had such a long time returning to the Lord, and accepting His Grace toward me, was I fell for one of the oldest tricks of the devil. I thought I had sinned too much and gone too far for His grace to reach me.

In effect I was saying that God’s grace and the payment of His Blood for my sins had reached an expiration date. That somehow my rebellion and sinful lifestyle had  caused His Blood to expire in efficacy when it came to me. Since repenting of my sins February 18, 1991 and being gloriously re-filled with the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, I am sorry to say that I have sinned more times than I care to think about.

The one lie that always came against me was that God was through with me this time! No more Grace for me, the Blood’s Power to cleanse me of sin was expired! I am ecstatic to announce that the story of the expiration of the Blood’s Power over sin was greatly exaggerated. If there is one thing you can always count on the devil and his imps consistently doing it is lying. On the other hand you can always count on God never lying. Indeed it is impossible for Him to do so.

For those who perhaps have struggled with this lie of the enemy, memorize this portion of Scripture. 20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:20-21 NKJV)

Pay especial attention to the latter part of verse 20; “But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more”. I won’t take the time to go into the Greek etc., but this verse in a nutshell says that no matter how heavy your sin weighs, Grace is always a little more than your sin. In other words there is no expiration date to the Blood of Jesus Christ! In faith repent and believe Him for Grace and you will find He is an ever present help in your time of trouble. I leave you with the words to a powerful old hymn we don’t sing near enough.

The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power

VERSE 1
The blood that Jesus shed for me,
Way back on Calvary;
It’s that blood that gives me strength from day to day,
It will never lose its power.

CHORUS
It reaches to the highest mountain.
It flows to the lowest valley.
The blood that gives me strength from day to day,
It will never lose its power.

VERSE 2
It soothes my doubts and calms my fears,
And it dries all, all my tears.
The blood that gives me strength from day to day,
It will never lose its power.

CHORUS
It reaches to the highest mountain.
It flows to the lowest valley.
The blood that gives me strength from day to day,
It will never lose its power.
